Metra 999222 stereo install kit.

Post by crazy larry »

is the shihit. I put one in, and did not take ONE DAMN picture. I bent the ears back, used two self tapping sheet metal screws to secure the plastic frame in the metal opening, two screws on each ear worked fine. wired it up right, threw some kenwood 6.5s in the doors, which are too big, but o well.... and it looks great and sounds nice too! I even got the radar detector wired so it'll shut off with the ignition. All i need to do now is get off my arse, and put the under bed tank in so I can turn my cab into a speaker box. then it's hank jr and jon anderson city!!!

cool. :D That thing looks better than what I've Got. Just the standard multi vehicle radio adapter installed by a previous owner.

You can either go to their website at http://www.metraonline.com/ or just pick one up at the nearest BestBuy.

If the guy says "we don't have it, it's not in my computer" tell him to get off his arse and look for part number 999222. it's on the wall. they have it.

Was that the correct number for the kit. When I search for 99-9222 it shows as a Volvo installation kit? I would love to find a kit to fit for a newer cd player.

Yep, the Volvo kit is the one you need. There isn't one specifically for these Ford trucks. With a couple very minor tweaks, the Volvo kits works perfectly.

it will be the best 18 dollars you ever spend on your stereo for your old ford truck. I guarantee it. any DIN size stereo will fit like it was supposed to. You'll have to figure out a way to securely mount it, like i said, i used a couple of self tapping sheet metal screws through the plastic clips of the frame, into the metal ears of the original stereo. one of these days, i'll get a piece of metal strapping and reinforce the rear of the deck. but for now, it's tight as can be. and after driving 240 miles straight with tunes, vs the same trip with out tunes, i can honestly say, I love it!
 :drive:

do not however, install 6.5 inch speakers in the door, there isn't enough room. :x

Would you have any pics as to how you mounted it?

I got it at BestBuy and it worked out great. I did have a problem with the best buy employees though  . took me like 15 minutes to explain to him that they have a kit for any/all volvos that also happens to fit my truck. I eventually got the kit  . Bestbuy needs to train their employees better? :hmm:
