Factory Bucket Seats

Post by 70_F100 »

Okay, guys, I bit the bullet and bought a set of factory buckets off of ebay.

They are complete, including brackets.

What I need to know is this: In a 71 bump, what year model Mustang seats were used????

If my information is correct...in 67, the seats were from '65-'66 Mustang (horizontal pleats):

In '68 they went to buckets from '67 Mustang (vertical pleats).

Thanks for the info, Keith.

I think you may have a little misinformation, though.

I went to http://www.ohiomustang.com after reading your reply, and it appears that the vertical pleats were used starting in 68 in the Mustang. That would, of course, make sense since the change in the trucks took place in 68.

I really don't know which one is correct, but at least now I have some information that will provide a starting point.

By the way, is $250 a good price for a set of these seats in good condition, including the brackets? :?

Thanks again,

Richard

Yeah thats a good price IMO. The bad part is the shipping. I am hoping to find a set of brackets for my truck. I find them with seats every once and a while.

in the first picture with the red interior, is there a gas tank or is it covered with matching carpet?

Factory option---I do believe with bucket seats to hide the gas tank

Yes, the tank cover was part of the bucket seat option. Notice the chrome trim piece along the top of the carpet...that too was only available with the bucket seats.

You're probably right....I'll have to look into that a little further to nail it down for sure.

Does anyone know a source for the brackets other than the auto yards. I have a set of 67 seats but they will come straight out of the mustang without appropriate brackets.

i have never seen the brackets for the mustangs or the trucks. i have heard they are lower sittign or different i don't know. but if they are different than a truck then good luck. the truck bucket seats are rare and hard to find. when you do find then the shipping will kill you. so i would think the brackets would be hard to find also. probably even harder to find just the brackets by themselves. maybe modifing or adding some height to the mustang brackets would be the way to go. or just get bucket seats out of a newer bronco. i seen a set in my local yard in a 86 bronco. but the drivers side back has big tear in it. or i might have gotten them for my 88.

Was there ever an option for a console on the trucks with bucket seats?...Ive seen some '66 Rangers that supposedly had the original buckets and console that was the same as those found in Falcons...
This is the point...I'm....talking about everybody! I'm talking about form! I'm talking about content! I'm talking about interrelationships! I'm talking about God, the devil, hell, heaven!!!! Do you understand???? Finally!!!!

I recently purchaced a set of 1966 mustang seat covers for my 67 f250. The standard 66 mustang had the same rosette inlay as my f250.My tags under the seat were dated 5-26-66. I was told by mustang market http://www.mustangmarket.com/ that the 65 mustang had the vinal inlay. I just got them back from my upholserer and they fit and look great. The two bucket covers cost 150. They told me that they didnt have any info for trucks, so took a chance and ordered them.

I'd love to hear a POSITIVE answer to this question! I've been looking for an answer to this question for a while now. I've been skimming through all the literature I could find & haven't found any evidence of a FACTORY console for OUR era of trucks.

I've probably seen the same pics that Joe is talking about; '66 Rangers with consoles that look like they're form a Falcon or Comet?... :?

******Has anyone ever seen or heard of a FACTORY console for our trucks?****** Seems kinda ODD that Ford would offer consoles for 66s, then DELETE them as options on later model trucks??...Don't it? :hmm:

This is a pic of the factory Buckets in my 68 with a funky plastic console from a Bronco that I laid in there to see how it fit...IF I do use it, I'll have it covered to match the seats as closely as possible...So it doesn't look like a Coleman cooler.

****PS. Does anyone have a set of the CHROME that goes behind the bucket seats that they'd like to sell?!!**** :D

Can you tell/show how those seats bolt to the mounting brackets and how the mounting brackets bolt to the floor? I had mocked up some 68 mustang seats directly out of a mustang and when they are centered behind the wheel, it looks like the seat tracks are 3-4 inches away from the original bench seat bolt holes. I reread an article on mustang seats into a truck, and the writer had to fabricate some tabs to extend to the factory bolt holes from the seat tracks. Boy, wouldn't it be unbelievably helpful if someone with factory buckets could somehow make a diagram or drawing of the seat brackets for those of us wishing for bucket seats but never having them originally. Might be willing to pay for that!
