Internally Regulated Alternator

Post by Ryrog »

I have a 1970 F-250. I have added lights, electronic ignition / spark amp, stereo, etc... Now it seems like the stock alt is providing just enough juice to keep it running. The batteries are barely getting a charge and sometimes the truck won't start after running a while. I want to go with a high output alt. Powermaster says on their website that the exterior regulator can simply be bypassed by removing and going direct power to the batt with an internal regulated model. This seems cool and would get rid of some old wiring anyway. Too good to be true? Does anyone have any experience with this?
Thanks

Do you have to unplug your factory amp gauge with the 3g conversion? I figure it would fry it rather quick if left hooked up.

The wiring for the amp gauge is in with the Alt- to Voltage regulator wiring and you're getting rid of most all of that when converting over to the 3G setup... So you loose the ability to use the factory Amp gauge after doing this conversion. Best time to install a Voltage gauge.

If it Looks good and Works good then it's ok by me. Everything has its issues from time to time...
