I recently purchased a '72 full gauge instrument panel on eBay. My question is, my '67 already has a later instrument panel in it, but the plug is shorter than the '72 requires. I don't mind sorting out the wiring from idiot light to instruments, but do I need to locate a '72 plug?
Thanks

Hey 67Phord...
If all yer gauges and stuff work on the one that is currently in yer truck, you can just swap the outer housing... it's just few screws...
If you need to replace the whole gauge assembly, I have heard of making an extension or adapter, using the wires and proper connectors from a wrecking yard.

Re: '72 Instrument Panel Into Earlier Cab Question
What I meant by shorter (and I apologize for not making myself clearer) is that the plug itself, not the wiring, is shorter than the slot in the newer instrument panel. My truck has a panel with a printed circuit with idiot lights, but the newer '72 panel has a longer (top to bottom) opening where the plug snaps in.
I was not aware that there were different plugs. I expected to have to install sending units and add additional wires to the plug itself, but this stumped me.

the plugs for the instrument clusters are matched in years. the 67-69 is the same size plug the 70 plug is one year only the 71/72 is the same but different plug than the other years. you have to match your plug with your cluster.

Re: '72 Instrument Panel Into Earlier Cab Question
Sounds like your truck has a 70 panel in it and the 71-72 connector wont work/fit. just a bit down on this page shows the differences http://www.fordification.com/67-72ID.htm

Re: '72 Instrument Panel Into Earlier Cab Question
Thanks. I am going to look for at leaqst the plug, if not the harness. I like to do wiring, so the plug itself will give me something to do.
