Factory A/C mix

Post by sport71 »

I couldn't figure out how to make a new file with pictures so I decided to make a small topic.
I got a NOS 1968 A/C bezel on evil-bay about 3 years ago. I'm just now going to use it.
I was going for the 68 look on the unit, I took off the old yellow wood grain bezel off of the 72
unit and saved the clips for the new one. It went on very well, and couldn't beleave how good it looked.
I was cleaning the A/C regesters to an old 68 they looked real nice all cleand up perfect.
I had installed them, and decided to also clean the ones to the 72 unit, well when I was cleaning
them all the black paint around came off, and shined real nice. I decided to see what they would
look like with the 68 bezel. Here are the pics from my phone.

Since this post is about AC I've gotta couple different questions to add as apposed to making another thread. ok 1. did all 68 F100 Rangers come with AC or was it still only optional. 2.Irregardless of the answer to question #1 I was wondering how hard and Expensive it'd be to get a factory original unit to go in my 68??? or am I just screwed and won't be able to find oem cause Adtermarket just aint me..............

it was an option. the suitcase a/c can sometimes be found on ebay. the shipping on them isn't much fun. and the buyer better wathc out how he packages it or it could be trashed by the time it gets there. hardtailjohn had that happend to him.

I got this one on evil-bay, make sure that you ask alot of questions so you won't be suprized when you get it. Also make sure to tell the shipper to make sure and lable the package, FRAGILE DON"T DROP ect. with the shipper. That's what I did... Good luck..

I had to laugh when I read this. One of the worst beat up packages I ever got was marked with all that stuff...multiple times. I think some of the package handlers make it a sport to see how much they can bang up the packages.

I found a perfect factory unit in my local junk yard. I've actually seen a few that are in really good shape. I am going to go again this week or the next so I will keep my eyes peeled for a good unit. I don't know what it is but the ford trucks here have some sweet stuff on them, I think most of the people here a chevy folks so they don't pick a part the fords. Do you want the whole deal like the lines, evap, and condesor, or do you just need the inside A/C unit? Let me know and I'll look.

Love the 68 bezel on the AC.
I kind modified mine also. My 68 came with factory AC, but my bezel didn't look too hot & my chrome ducts were really pitted. I picked up another (newer) unit for parts. The vents & Louvers are from a 71. The vents cleaned up nicely, but the wood-grained fascia was beat up & looked like Poop. So when I went through the unit, I painted the panel satin black & painted on "chrome" trim. It'll get me by till I can find a nice '68 fascia panel (like yours) & set of '68 vents.
