our trucks came as a two sided key that fit in all three locks. either way up or down. if you had soemthing like that then someone has changed the ignition switch at one time and didn't swap the key cylinder out to match the door locks. atleast thats what it sounds like to me. unless you have a key to fit either lock you will have to go to a lock smith and get the keys made for the locks you have or swap out for a matched set of keys.

i, personally, have never seen a FoMoCo key with two different cuts (one cut on each side) - both sides of the key are cut exactly the same on every Ford, Lincoln or Mercury key I have ever seen - and it made no difference which way the key was turned. Have had quite a few over the years...
If you had something of this nature then you have a "special" cut key and the only way you will get that key again (short of finding your lost key) is to have it made by a competant locksmith. Locksmith will need access to the ignition switch & the door lock...

Good luck

altho, in retrospect, I havent actually seen/held a newer key (last 10yrs or so...LOL)

Fordmans idea sounds most likely. I have also heard of people with two Ford vehicles putting one car on the top half of the key and one on the botom so with one key it would fit either vehicle if put in the ignition the right side up.

Done it, works pretty well. Two trucks one key. Frustrates the heck out of people who are not used to it though. Fumble and grumble.

My dad and I did that on my two trucks a while back. Pretty neat idea

i know what you were saying. its the same deal with putting two different trucks on one. key. kind of a pain but also kind of handy. and if you ever sell one of the trucks you better have another single key made just for the truck your selling.

Get a new ignition lock then have a locksmith re-key the door lock cylinders to match. The door lock cylinders come out very easily.

i think it was 80-86 that ford had two keys for the doors and the ignition. in 87 i think they went back to one key only for everything.
