Flickering lights
I'm having problems with flickering lights on my truck. At an idle all the lights, right down to the dash lights, "pulse" like a heartbeat. The higher the RPM's the faster the pulse and the less noticeable the effect becomes. The voltage regulator and alternator are brand new. I've got a heavy duty ground strap running from the engine to the frame but it doesn't make a difference. I'm sure it's a ground problem but I wanted to check with the experts to see if anyones encountered the same problems and hopefully get an idea of where to start to clear it up.

Re: Flickering lights
I went to a one wire alt many years ago and that solved my problem. Lot of folks here I read to the 3G alt but I am not sure if they are tryng to resolve the same issue. I also heard that if you switch out the big regulator for the smaller solid state regulator that will stop the pulse also.

Re: Flickering lights
I had this similar issue on mine and after my alternator quit working this flickering stopped (was supposedly a new alternator on the truck when I got it, and it looked it) I replaced the alternator with a good used one I had and it went away… I would suspect the new alternator is the problem… I’m guessing if you got a new Regulator it is the solid state one.
