original under hood light

Post by fordman »

i have read that these work on a mercury switch. where is the mercury swithc located? is it inside of the bulb socket? i picked this one up out of a truck today. the wire went downt o the solinoid and had a inline fuse in the wire. but i couldn't see the mercury switch anywhere in the line or anyplace else. here is a pic of it.

My truck has one and it does work, just couldn't figure out how to shut it off so i pulled the bulb. When I get home tonight if nobody answers your question I'll look into it more to see if I can figure it out.

Yeah, the mercury switch is in the housing for the bulb. You need to make sure that it is mounted (oriented) the same as before so that when the hood is down it shuts off. Should be able to hook up some test leads to it and a battery and move it around and see the light turn off and on, if it is still good (mercury didn't leak out of it) :2cents:
