Cargo switch

Post by R.Smith »

I just noticed my 68 parts truck has a factory switch on the dash that says "cargo". I've never seen this before. What does it go to?

the light in the outside rear cab. its to check your bed when driving at night or for other lights when loading or unloading at night. they really dont put out much light but its better than nothing. if you use it in your truck. make sure to remove all the wiring for it. don't cut anything it all just unplugs.

Just for the record, though....I wasn't paying attention when I made the above graphic, and didn't notice that the cargo light example I just grabbed from my picture collection was actually attached upside down. I'll get it fixed.

No big deal Keith. As mentioned above, just unplug everything if you want it for your truck. It will fit perfectly into your wiring. Just cut the hole for the light and switch and stretch the wires. No big deal.

Thanks. I don't have a cargo light on my 70 so I guess I'll yank the swith and toss it in my ever growing pile of bump stuff.

I can send you a picture of mine tonight. They light up (the switch knob) when in use.

The cargo light on my '69 F250 has the long side on top and the short side on the bottom, just as the pic shows.

My '69 F100 has the short side up. Looks like it could really go either way though.

it will work either way. but the long side up is correct for a factory restoration. with some quick wiring you could put in one of those from a newer truck that has the cargo light and brake lights all in one light. if you started with a cab that never had the light in it.
