OT Ford Taurus electric widows/locks
I need help dianosing why the electric windows and locks don't work. The car is a 92 Taurus The window on the driver side is the only one that works, the other windows don't work at all from their door switch or the switch on the drivers door. The electric locks will lock from the drivers switch but won't unlock from that switch, the switches on theother doors will neither lock or unlock. This problem has been developing over the course of the past year. First window trouble than door locks. I have a good volt/ohm tester but I don't have a clue where to start. This is my first experience with electric windows/locks. They are great when they work. Any help/advice will be greatly appreciated.

Pull the door panel and see if you have power at the switches and at the door lock actuator and window motor when the respective switches are activated.

Sounds like bad switches to me. Check 'em and see if they have that green build up going. Could be they just need cleaned.

Re: OT Ford Taurus electric widows/locks
The system is receiving power from the fuse panel as the drivers side switches some what work, that's good. Typically the Drivers side controls supply the voltage to the other switches. Check to make sure all the connections are clean and tight at that switch assembly.
Other things to consider are rain / moisture inside the switch assembly causing corrosion on the contacts or broken wires in the door jam area.
Some models incorporate a relay system for door locks, but since this is also window motor related, I don't think that is your problem.
Good luck

Get some electrical contact cleaner, any auto parts or electronics store should have some.george worley wrote:Thanks for the advice what should I use to clean the switch.
It comes in a spray can.
