sparks

Post by satashooter71 »

having wiring trouble, someone told me to run a jumper on relay one side to another. when i tried sparks flew, what does this mean? another thing is when i put my hot and ground on the batt. the coil gets hot and this is with the switch off? i got it to turn over once and it would not cut off by the switch, i had to pull the hot wire off the batt.?

on the fender relay you jump it by takign a screwdriver from the larg battery side terminal on the relay to the first small terminal on the relay. that will make the relay enguage. to start the motor. if the swithc is on it shoudl start. the red iwre should be on the front small terminal and the brown wire for the coil should be on the back small terminal.

Sparks and heat sounds like a bad starter solenoid to me. You will get some sparks when bypassing the coil just because youre humping some major current to the starter.
