brake lights
ok, this is the last thing to pass inspection. i have found no brakes in wires, so could it be a blown fuse?

Re: brake lights
yes it could be. the on eonethe bottom right i think is the brake power. from there it goes to the brake pedal switch. and then up and thru the column and then back out to the brake lights.

Sounds like you have a ground problem.hotrod ford wrote:ok, got them to work partly, but they don't work when the lights are on.
See if the light is grounded to the box and the box is grounded to the frame.

Re: brake lights
alright, there is no ground wire that i can find. the brake switch wires are like this: the white one goes to the back of the truck and the red one goes to the battery. funny thing is, my wife said when i hit the brake pedal even the front blinkers light up. is this because there is no ground? where do i splice the ground wire into?

Re: brake lights
The fuse box is already grounded through running positive and negative wires. More than likely your wires could be a little mixed up. Possibly a broken wire.

Re: brake lights
no, just got done rplacing the wires from the brake switch and added a ground. still does the same thing. no brakes when the lights are on. the wire the goes to the back is a replacement wire. it is routed into the parking lights i think. isn't the brake light supposed to be brighter than the park light? if so, when i press the brakes the park light goes on and off. on the light bulb there are two springs. the bigger on should be for the brakes i think.

Re: brake lights
Try cleaning the contacts on the bulbs.
Many times, there is some "bleed-through" if both contacts are not making a good connection.
Other than that, check your grounds.
If it's none of these, sell the truck, it can't be fixed... LOL

Why is it that there's seldom time to fix it right the first time, but there's always time to fix it right the second time???

Re: brake lights
found the problem. the brake wire was running into the park lights. removed it and spliced it into the other terminal and they worked. took it to get inspected and it passed. yeeeesssss.

Re: brake lights
i was going to say after reading for a second or two. the brake and taillights are the same circut/wire /side of the element in the bulb.

Re: brake lights
I just got back in, I wasn't sure so I checked mine .
The bulb grounds to the tail lamp housing then to the box then the box bolts to the frame and completes the circuit.
If you have any rust it'll make a bad conductor and then your park lamps will come on because it'll ground through the tail lamp wiring. Electricity is like water it takes the path of least resistance.
I'm glad you found your problem.
