Metra Kit

Post by JMcTurnan »

So I got my kit, radio, and all that good stuff. I cut the center out with a hot knife. When you put it in there without the back brace did it wobble a bit? The radio I mean, is it going to cause me problems down the road even when I put a brace on?

Yes, It will wobble without a back brace.

Depending on what you use for a back brace, it may still wobble, but the amount will be significantly less.

If you install withoug a back brace you will regret it after the first really badly ruttted or pot-holed road as they wobble will just increase with the additional wear

Both mine are mounted and do not have a back brace. I haven't had any problems yet but a back brace would not be a bad idea. Maybe make a bracket that will go from the radio to the center dashpad bolt. That is what I will probably do.

My volvo kit came with the part to connect it to the factory back brace, it worked perfect. Yours should also have this part?

I just used a piece of metal plumbers tape (the metal strap with lots of holes) and fastened mine to the stock speaker mounting bolt.
