Instrument panel LEDs
Is this the right LED for the instrument panel? I'm all for authenticity except when it comes to safety. I don't mind brighter gauges, brighter headlights and shoulder belts.

Re: Instrument panel LEDs
Thats a bayonet style. That would work in some other sockets but not the inst panel. I think what you need is this

Ah, well if its a 69 then maybe you were right the first time. I was thinking 70's. Heres a pic of them but I cant confirm the bulb type for a 69.

Re: Instrument panel LEDs
The one you picked first should be the one.
They have sockets with a single contact that is spring-loaded. You can identify this by the single wire that's coming in the back of the socket. The ground is supplied by the metal housing, which is, itself, grounded.
The other (plastic) type that is used beginning in 70 gets both power and ground from the printed circuit.

Why is it that there's seldom time to fix it right the first time, but there's always time to fix it right the second time???

Re: Instrument panel LEDs
no no only 2 bulbs for back lights... color of your choice.
2 turn lights green leds(if you want to change them).
1 hi beam warning light. red or blue depneds on year of truck.
also for the accual lighting back panel lights get the multi led like the 4 led ones cause the single dont put out enough light.
But for the turns or head lamp warning light single are fine
unless you have idiot lights instead of full gauges then you have two more lights

I don't really care about brands Chevy Ford Dodge ...as long as it doesn't sound like two old dudes farting in a coffee can.

Re: Instrument panel LEDs
Also i have found personaly on mine the green for the turns also make good back lights. the white to me just comes out as a light blue.
also if doing white guages paint the front of the black peice of metal that goes between the guages and the lens white and for the guages area get that painted or covered with something realy reflective as well as make that back of the black piece of metal reflective too. Led's tend to direct light mostly out the front of the bulb. so the more it can bounce off mirror like surfaces the better it will light.

Re: Instrument panel LEDs
I like the green LEDs in my truck to, I have the 4 LED bulbs and they are generally plenty bright.
1 word of caution, turning them down doesn't do much so you have to like how they are to start with.

Re: Instrument panel LEDs
Used 6 point bulbs in my F-600 Cluster. Lights work excellent on the factory dimmer built into the light switch. I found the 4 point bulbs didn't dim well and suddenly go out. The 6 point bulbs cost a little more, ($8 each), but the light is a HID Blue/White and they dim beautifully! They make the white lettering on the F-600 cluster look blue white and the black stays a velvet black....My choice in dash leds.
