Column Wiring

Post by JMcTurnan »

So Im hooking up a 70 column in my 68, do the wires color code? Most of them did for me. But when I turn on my right blinker, my break lights don't work. When I turn on my right blinker period, it does not work in back. Most of the wires are good I think, but i color coded them. I have 1 purple wire left that idk wth it does.

according to this diagram http://www.fordification.com/images/sch ... ghts01.jpg you may be thinking purple is blue. i looked at the 70 and up columns i have here and they do look dark blue or they could be called purple. it is wire number 44. hazard can in a 1970 truck. but if you were putting it in a 68 then it goes to the same place. kapt kaos has a great diagram for the 68 two plug system all written otu real nice to see and understand. he may just post it here for you to see.

The dark blue is what is coming off my plug, not the 70 column.

ok the dark blue still hoks to the dark blue in the corner of the 70 column. so its the same as placemnt goes. it should be the same color on both sides.

Ok so they are spose to be colored match ups? Wierd, because there is 2 on the column that don't match up to anything. But they go to the 2 plug outlet I believe. I got all lights working but the rear right blinker, and the brake light when the blinker is on. Green is spose to be rear right blinker, but it does my brake lights for some reason.

here is the diagram the kapt made. it shows the correct positions of the 68 wires in the plugs.

Here's a simplified diagram I made for my '68... I 6-69 are the same, but not 100% positve '67 is the same or not, I think so.
The diagram has wire color, circuit number and function of each wire.

You can down laof the pic and print it out.

if this doesnt fix it for you let me know and i will do a more extensive comparison of the 68 and 70 colors and positions.

I wasn't given a plug on my column, so Im just wiring colors together. Most match closely with just like different shades. But that looks like it will help alot, thanks Ill try it out friday.

Ok so I looked all the colors are straight on, but there is one difference. On the small pigtail, the colors or an orange-blue, and green-orange, but the only ones left off my column are a red black, and yellow black. My right turn signal doesnt work in back at all, and doesnt work anywhere when I press the brakes. Any guesses?

That did it fordman, thanks you always have the right stuff. 3 wires were messed up under dash, the 3 that I thought. Once I did that, i had to redo some rear wires. Now it all works, thanks
