parking /turn signal light problem

Hi
I have a electrical problem on my 71 f-250 camper special.Every time I push on the brake pedal the right front parking / turn signal light comes on whether it be day or night.The light goes out as soon as I release the brake pedal.Whats the problem and wheres it at?

Sounds like a bad ground.

Try loosening the nuts on the parking light/turn signal housing and then retightening them.

If that doesn't work, take the light housing out and get rid of the rust where it contacts the body.

sounds like it may even be that some one tapped the turns up front into the brakes to bypass a wiring issue. i have seen this done on chevies.

The players in this problematic circuit are:

-Turn signal switch
-Hazard switch
-Ground
-Trailer light connector
-Previous owner hacking

Typically there would be a bad ground at the rear right tail light in your situation. This would cause the bulb to seek a ground thru the parking light circuit. BUT this would dimly light all the park lights not just the right front signal. So that can't be it.

This leads me to think that it is either an internally shorted RR bulb, the turn signal mechanism in the column, emergency flasher switch, or your trailer lighting plug wiring. These are the only other areas where the turn signal and brake light circuits come together.


Not likely but ~ Check the ground for the right rear taillight.
Check the RR tail light for the proper bulb. Dual filament 1157 not the single 1156.
Check the RR tail light bulb for a shorted filament or replace bulb.
Check to see that the hazard switch is not on and or is operating properly.
Check your rear taillight wiring by the rear bumper. Has it been hacked up or shorted ? ( usually by an added trailer plug )

Other than that, it'll be a matter of checking the wiring leading all the way from inside the cab to the right rear tail light. Checking for cracked /melted /crossed wires, emergency flasher switch, turn signal switch, and previous owner hacks.
