Let me tell you what! That is a GREAT looking headliner! You ought to make those up and sell them. I would be first in line if you do! I got one of the ABS plastic headliners from LMC that have the 4 speakers.....and I sure wish I hadn't!

Been a pain to install, can't use the original chrome trim with it. They have some plastic covers that go over the screws to hold it in that look like black sticks sticking out. Painted it a nice warm very light beige and that part came out fine. Speakers were junk to start with....10 watt speakers.....WoW! Replaced them for another $130 so into this thing close to $500 and it's still a piece of crap! Save your money if you're thinking of one of these. Oh, and just for anyone's info, the housing for the radio is so small it barely fits and any "heat sink" on the radio sits on the plastic housing and has a tendency to melt it's way through the plastic. Nice engineering? I think someone dreamed this up in a nightmare some time and were too stupid to realize it wasn't worth anything. But they made it anyway and damned if some Idiot didn't buy one of them! Me for Hell sakes! Boy, I sure hope I never do anything this stupd again!!! Needless to say, DON'T BUY ONE! Find another way to be "mean" to yourself......like having someone beat you over the head with a 2 x 4 until it breaks.....or get run over by a damned old train! You will be money way ahead to run like hell if you even look at the catalog picture of the "HighLiner.!"

Let's see if I can explain this better! I cut the Laminate to the shape of the headliner. I then glued the VINYL to the piece I cut out of the Laminate. Is that clearer.

i see now. that is a good idea. better thna masonite. that laminate is thin and flexable. and it is made of wood not sawdust type of materials glued together.

Fordman, sorry to disagree, but "Formica" (or other brands of laminate) are not made of wood.

The material is actually known as high-pressure laminate. Formica is a brand name.

These laminates are made of what is known as a "thermosetting resin", which is a plastic resin that cannot be re-processed once it sets.

Opposite of thermosetting resins are thermoplastic resins. This is the stuff that is used to make wiring connectors and other things. Even after it's been processed, it can be reground and processed again, up until the material properties change to a point that it is not reusable because of degradation. Even then, it can be used in products such as plastic decking boards.

your right abotu the brand name thing. thats why i started to not use the name. i saw a tv show awhile back that said a similar thing abotu making laminates for counter tops. the show i saw did use actual wood as the base backer when they were making the sheets of laminate. it was coated in thsi and that and they layered all of those sheets together with some sort of paper and then heat and pressure they made the laminates. i am sure thats what i saw. they said they were one of the only companies doing this. and other companies were now using the chemical only type laminates. but they did use wood coated with the chemicals and then layered that to make the laminate. i'll see if i can find a link to it on one of those discovery type of channels i saw it on.
