Ok don't get me wrong here but I think my ID Plate is homemade kinda sorta.. I don't know it has my vin number and a bunch of other numbers and letters underneath the vin number. It is right below the door latch on the drivers side door.. Not like any i saw in my books and online Since i am kinda new I am not sure if I can take a picture of it scratch out the vin number and let you all have a look....

No mine is sorta blank it does not say ford on it but the more I look at it and that pick at least i might be able to put the numbers in the right place if i use it as a blank model.....

It would be helpful for you to post a pic, since otherwise we're just guessing. However, a truck can have a salvage title issued by your local DMV, and would have a different tag issued by them.
As for the windshield VIN tag, some '68s had it on the lower-right side of the windshield, in addition to the door-mounted VIN tag. Here's a shot taken from one of my parts trucks. The top part of the photo is the view from the outside, the lower part is the inside view:

The window VIN was only large enough for a single line of digits. Yours is simply a standard VIN tag...which has been painted over by a previous owner. You might be able to clean the paint off without removing the tag's factory paint markings, but don't hold your breath.

Just a couple of points, first off, the tag on the door is not a VIN tag or plate, it is a warantee plate. It is there for the dealers to use to service the vehicle properly. Except for a few odd trucks, like the 68 shown above, the trucks did not have a VIN plate and the VIN was specifically stamped on the frame. Second, the picture of two plates is not a windshield tag and door tag, it is a door tag and a warantee card tag that would have been attached to a plastic card at the dealership (with two sided tape which is why it is loose now). The card was used at the dealership whenever warantee repairs were done and there was an imprinter that the card was installed in and a copy was made so the dealership could charge the work out to Ford. I can't even imagine that! I have never heard of a paper card and I don't think the card imprinters would not work with a paper card. Ford was already using a plastic card by the early 60's and I can't imagine that one area of the country would be doing something different than the rest of the country. Hawkrod
