I have noticed that my speedo needle bounces alot. It is steady till you get to 50-60 mph, but then till 100 it will slowly bounce around. My cable is brand new, and so is the gear. I checked the speedo itself when I had the cluster out, it seemed fine.
Any ideas as to the cause for this?
Thanks!

Re: Bouncing speedo needle?
Usually means that the cable is binding up inside the cable housing. I've only seen it at low speeds though.
Lubricating the inside of the cable and checking the routing of the cable to prevent sharp turns would likely be the fix.
They have a graphite speedo cable lubricant available at the parts stores. I've also seen people remove the inner cable and slather it up with grease too. Then there's always the general spray can lube.... I'd stay away from lithium base lubricants though, they tend to harden up after a time.
Check to make sure the cable is routed away from exhaust pipes, the outer casings will melt and bind up too....

Re: Bouncing speedo needle?
I figured it out, I pulled the cluster to replace my coolant guage and install some led's. While I was at it I took the speedo assembly out, turns out the counter balance on the needle itself had been turned alittle bit, causing it to float around on the far side of the dial, in other words couldnt support its own weight. After tweaking it it is solid as a rock, just need to recalibrate it to speed, its about 7mph to fast.
