smoked glass vs tint
Just looking for a little help on going with tint on clear glass or using the smoked glass or green glass from BOTP or other glass shop.
just looking for examples of what each look like. eg. %tint or smoked glass ,green.
cant find pics of that smoked stuff anywhere,
Thanks.

Your local auto glass shop should have what you need. I replaced my 63 F100 clear glass with tinted. It also has the darker strip across the top. Pics won't show you anything, you'd need to see it in person.
Re: smoked glass vs tint
If you buy from any auto glass manufacturer for our truck, you cant get a true tinted window. You can get a light green tint, but they dont sell dark tints. If it did not come out with tinted windows they wont make them. However alot of companies will just get you clear glass and send it to a proffessional tinter, you never know the difference if it is done right.

Re: smoked glass vs tint
the best thing would be to see it but my local shop only orders glass direct and does not cut any glass. so if it's not in there catalog, it can't be done. and this glass is going into a dent, which i believe is curved glass. so i either order it or buy clear.
thats why i wanted to see examples of it to see if it's worth ordering or not.
maybe i'll just order the vents to start,
still a couple pics of rides with examples would be nice.

are you talking about sending the glass to a tinter that applies the sticker tint, or actually tint the glass with chemical dye's like eye glass places do.JMcTurnan wrote:If you buy from any auto glass manufacturer for our truck, you cant get a true tinted window. Re: smoked glass vs tint
Classic auto glass has the smoke tint or the green glass for our trucks. They have an ebay store and it shows pictures of both. Just do search on ebay for 67-72 ford truck and it will come up. The smoke tint really looks great in our trucks. my
And its not the applied film tint its the color of the glass. The web site is Bobsclassicautoglass.com

Re: smoked glass vs tint
jcthurman is right. our trucks came with either the green tinted glass or the clear glass. smoked is a ftermarket thing and i don't know what i think abotu it for sure. it might be alright if you got the right smoke coloring. here is acomparison picture fo the clear vs the tinted glass from our trucks. 67-72. yes the 73-79 is a curved door glass. the green one in the picture doesnt look that green when you are up close. it was dark when i took this picture. it is misleading.

Re: smoked glass vs tint
All the glass you get new for our trucks is after market know unless you are very lucky and find someone that has some OEM still in stock.

Re: smoked glass vs tint
It is all aftermarket, but companies wont add chemical dies like black to it. You can get light tints, I have checked probably 4-5 different companies, if for say a 35% black tint wasn't available for stock, they wont make it. But you can sticker tint it, or have it cut out of black laminate glass.
Re: smoked glass vs tint
They do make a paint for tinting glass, but it doesnt work that well as you would think. It scratches off.

Laminated glass would be great for the back and vent windows. but my side windows are curved. hmm.JMcTurnan wrote:It is all aftermarket, but companies wont add chemical dies like black to it.
