the proper window wips will keep most of the water out i would think.

What are you talking about fordman ? Window wips? You mean the runners and the felts and stuff, I need to get that I know because my windows rattle. But I dont know what the whole second line of your statement means LOL.

Pep Boys sells what they call a 'Speaker Baffle' that essentially is like a 'plastic cup' that goes on the back of the speaker... yes it keeps it dry, but it also really cleans up the sound and gives a warmer feel to it where just the magnet exposed in the empty metal door kinda has a 'metallic' sound to it we've found ... those 'baffles' were like ten bucks for the pair and they had them for various sizes, 5's, 6's, 6x9's etc etc

Ok a baffle gotcha, i saw some of those on ebay too. Good. Because I think I am going to make some diamond tread door panels and was just wondering how speakers should be done.

well the 70-72 trucks had the rubber window seals (wipes) that go on the door. it is included in a anti rattle kit. the 67-69 had the felt type.

I had 6x9s in each door of the 67 on the panels with nothing coverting them. My window seals where virtually non existent felt type. I had zero probelms with my speakers and 5 years of that was in Western Oregon (lots of rain), 2 years in Mississippi (lots of hard rain) and another 4 years in Cali and Texas (less rain). Even though they still worked when I pulled them for the restoration, they suffered damage in the form of small taresfrom years of door shutting and bumping with my feet. I really think my speakers didn't get wet since they were on the intierior portion of the doors. I think most the moisture stays on outter part of the inside of the doors.

ya either on the outside or gets caught in the rails of the window regulator arms and 'freezes' em up :s you'll notice some holes along the bottom of the door just above the skin for draining

Get some marine grade speakers. They have a poly cone and rubber baffles on the voice coil.

Do you think will tin snips work pretty well on 1/8th inch aluminum diamond plate? I have no clue? What about a 16th?

that diamond plate is soem pretty touch stuff even that thin. i doubt avaition snips would do it. a whole saw bit would do it. but they are kind of expensive for a 5 or 6 inch roudn blade. i think around 20.00 for just the blade. for a one time use i don't think its worth the price. but that is just my opinion.

I have had 6x9's in mine 71 for probably 20 years. I just swapped out the original ones for a better pair but they are still in good working order. The original anti-rattles were in my truck up until about 8 years ago

I mean to cut straight and the curves around my door panel. If I take a 24"x36" piece and cut it to the door panel. You dont think it would work? What would be the best way to get a clean cut then? Jig saw or band saw doesnt sound right to me .
