seat upgrade

Post by bigredball90 »

I want to upgrade to a newer seat up to 96. It needs to a bench with the consol that flips down. I would prefer buckets but I dont really want to drill more holes unless someones done them and its easier than it sounds. The catch with the bench seat is that I have a 5sp. as it is right now the very bottom of my shifter just barely touches the seat so it works great. What is the seat depth (the part you would sit on) on your newer seats?

i don't know right off hand abotu the depth of the bottom part of the seat. but i can tell you that to install bukcet seats all you need is to drill one hole per side fo reach bucket seat. so you will make two hole total. the rear hole is already there from the factory. it is under the square rubber plug.

Look nice in there but like said too far forward and the backs are too up right. I don't think I could be comfortable in them.
All of the later model Ford truck seats I have seen in a bump look about the same. I think our cabs are just not long enough for them. I actually had a set of original buckets at one time years ago and traded them for a set of wheels. I still kick myself about that. They looked right in a bump to me.

From the photos I've seen the bump buckets aure look the same as my 1966 Mustang buckets, I'd have to see them side by side to be sure but you might want to consider that, a lot of Mustang guys put aftermarket seats in (I plan do to that as well). You'll still have to source brackets but I know that there are drawings of the OEM brackets so they can be recreated.

They looked a lot like early Bronco seat also. I bet they were used on many early cars.
