ac service port valve

Post by f1shermun »

I am trying to charge my A/C on my 1972 f-250. The low side valve is froze shut ( tightened). I have soaked it in penetrant for days and haven't had any luck getting it unstuck. Where can I find another valve? It has the vertical mounted compressor.

Remember these valves are over 40 years old. Call Classic Auto Air in Tampa and get either a rebuilt valve or new replacement. It's worth the money as opposed to the aggrevation

I got the valve unstuck. I tried pulling a vacuum on the system but it has a major leak some where. How should I find the leak without having to spend a bunch of money on refridgerant?

i was told that leak detector stuff will clog up your system. one can of refridergant would be enough for a mechanical leak detector to smell out. did you replace all of the o rings and soforth when putting everything back together? that would be one thing to check.

Illegal for someone like me to do, (we haven't been able to use refrigerant for leak checking for several years now).
Nitrogen is what we use in the A/C industry.
Although i'm not sure where you could buy it on a consumer level. :hmm:

I havent had the system open, but there is definitely a huge leak. I am eventually going to refill the sysytem with the freeze 12 vice having to worry about all of the retro fitting. Are there o-rings that I should replace?
