Radio Capacitor? need radio help!

Post by alvald83 »

I am trying to work on this radio noise, which doesn't seem to be engine related, but i am still trying to replace the correct condensor. The problem is there are two and i don't know which one is the correct one to replace. I need some help.

1. The condensor on the coil on the coil is for what? How should it be connected?
2. The condensor at the voltage regulator does not have a # or description. I accidently broke it off at the in-line connector.

I have checked the antennae, adjusted the screw under the tuner knob, and still have this whistling noise that doesn't change with the engine rpm's. any ideas?

Do you have the noise with the key on & the engine off ? Or does the truck have to be running to hear the noise?

Also, what year is the truck/radio ??

The noise is the same whether the truck is running or not. It doesn't fluctuate with the engine, it is a constant high pitch whistle. I have already replaced the condensor at the voltage regulator.

yes it is at radio shack. it is called electronic tuner spray. it comes in a 8 oz can for about 5.00. it helps clear up dirty contacts inside of knobs on electronic devices.

Making noise with the engine OFF is a problem with the Radio itself, the condensers on the engine/voltage regulator are only for noise generated from the points and Voltage Regulator when the motor is Running. There is no noise generated with the motor off...

Its been awhile since i have attempted to fix this problem, but in the process of having my truck painted they removed my antenna. While driving home i tried the radio, without the antenna the noise is gone. Any ideas?

bad anteena? bad ground for the anteena? bad cord on the anteena? dont run without a anteena. it will help burn out the radio i think.

Just tried the radio with a new antenna, still (a different) high pitch whistle, and i can barely hear the radio stations. I getting ready to scrap the idea of keeping the stock radio. Do you think the local tv repair or electronic repair shops might take a shot at fixing this? and fordman before i do that i will try the Tuner spray.
