Cup holder ideas?
After reading the post about the ashtrays I am inclined to ask about cup holders.
I like the ashtray, it's great for the occasional cigar.
I bought one of those cheezey "organizers" that have two cup holders and are plastic. Looked at it on the floor and took it back thinking there has to be something better.
I could go with a floor mount but my wife likes to drive the bump too, considering she drove it before I ever did as it was her grandfathers.
So, she moves the seat forward almost all the way and that puts a cup holder in the middle of the floor. That type has to be fastened down to keep it from tipping with a big cup o joe.
I'm open to a seat console as I don't ride three in the front very often, but it does happen. I'm going to keep the original bench seat so a seat upgrade is out.
Has anyone mounted a nice dash cup holder?
Got pictures of a nice seat console or cup holder of any type?
Thanks.

I've used a Caddy Bouy a swinging cup holder for boats.

Also a roll of duct tape on it's side does good too.

I just have one of the larger floor consoles you get from the auto parts store. I have it screwed into the tunnel cover and it doesn't move and works well. If I decide to put a four speed in this truck (currently a C6) I'll have to re-think it but for now I'm satisfied.

Re: Cup holder ideas?
Ive thought about this in the past and what im going to do is use a cup holder from a 93 F150 and have it installed on the front of the seat like it was on the 93.

Sounds like a plan, she holds your cup while you keep hers warm.BobbyFord wrote:I'd like to get me a hot brunette cup holder

Re: Cup holder ideas?
I ended up going to a pull-a-part place and salvaging a cup and coin holder from an early 90's Mercury Taurus or Sable. Basically two slide out trays that were contained in a plastic box about the size of a radio. I mounted it against an aluminum plate and then mounted it on the front edge underneath my seat, along with a auxillary power strip to plug in cell phone chargers or anything else powered by a cigarette lighter plug. With a push of the button the tray slides out for either two cup holders or a little coin tray/storage holder. I'll attach a couple photo's.
With that being said, I wish I'd thought of the hot brunette cup holder first....

Big Blue, that is awesome! Looks nicely done and un-intrusive. I like teh power box thing going on there, too. Similar to what I'm thinking of doing. thankd for the photos.
I hate my floor mounted auto-store cup holder. P.O. installed it, and I'm not too big a fan of it. It does the job, sure. But that doesn't stop me from wanting somehting better. Well, better to me anyway. I like what big blue has done.. any chance you'd have more info on the holders or the mazda it came out of?

Re: Cup holder ideas?
The Dodge Dakota trucks (not sure what years) and maybe others as well have a cupholder similar to what Big Blue has. I've been looking for one of those to adapt to my 72. I had just thought of putting in under the dash somehow, never thought of the idea to put it under the seat. Might have to rethink my ideas. Nice job. BB

Re: Cup holder ideas?
My bad. It wasn't a Mazda. I did some checking and that unit comes out of an 89-95 Mercury Taurus or Sable. Not sure how I could've confused that with a Mazda.
Ebay generally always has a few if you can't find them at a pull-a-part place. Just a little warning though. I wish it'd been something I just slapped under the seat, but it wasn't. It took a bit of fabrication to make it work. The "cup" holder sits under the "coin" tray. Since the cup holder would have sat darn near directly on the carpet I had to swap the position of the trays to raise the clearance level of the "cup" tray to give me more room to set a drink into the holder. In order to do that you have to pry the trays out, remove a flip down piece that's orignially meant to hold the bottom of a soda can and shave off a couple plastic "stops". It sounds easy but I remember it being kind of a pain in the ass. I like how it turned out though. You could save yourself A TON of time and not have to modify anything if you could find a place to mount it under the dash.
