'67 radio

Post by 67MercM100 »

What has anyone done with their "radio hole" in their '67?

Mine is just that - a hole; no radio. There doesn't seem to be anyplace that makes a modern radio that will fit.

I'm considering a "highliner". At least it has a spot for a radio. I know the speakers suck and a lot of people aren't happy with theirs. So if you have thoughts on highliners, I'd like to hear them.

Even if I do the highliner - I've still got a hole in my dash... :hmm:

My 1969 F100 still has its factory working original radio. They do make aftermarket radios that LOOK original and fit into the desh the same way the original does, I has thought about installing one. I am going to put a highliner in my truck and replace the 4" 10 watt speakers with 4" alpines capable of 50 watt RMS each with an Alpine head and power pack to push 45 watts RMS to them (each). Almost no bass it will still sound poor, but im not about to to any hacking to install speakers in my all original gem. I want to replace the dash speaker so that my factory AM radio still functions and sound they way it used to. I just cant see throwing out my 40+ year old working radio.
1969 F100. All factory 360, 4-speed, candy apple red one owner. Incredible truck!

I can find new radios for 68 - 72, but not 67.
Does the volvo kit work with a 67?

fordkc,

i should have stopped by to look at your truck while I was down for the Nascar weekend.

What year Volvo kit should I be looking for; or what part number? I finally got around to Googling "volvo single din". It looks like there a lot of them.

You can install a CD player into your truck's slanted dash by using a Metra DIN radio installation kit #99-9222 for a '75-'93 Volvo. Flip the mounting piece upside down and attach it to the bent-back ears in your dash, which will allow the stereo to sit perfectly horizontal in the dash opening.

There are quite a few threads here on the forums with folks doing this. Do a search and you can even see some pics of completed installations.

Thanks Fordi-man! I did go ahead and do some more searching. Thankfully, I came up with the same 99-9222 kit that you suggested. Thanks for confirming what I dug up. If I only had more patience...nah...the searching is part of the fun! :) Now...if they'll just send me what I ordered.

PS: this site is the greatest!!
