Gauge/panel issues:

Post by zoso »

Hi all,

More questions from a clueless nube.

1) Aftermarket temp gauge is stuck at last reading 185.
2) red wire to aftermarket electrical gauge is off the unit. To screw posts...
2) Nothing on my instrument panel works, although the bulbs all seem good.
3) There is a duraspark push button control box, I' assuming for towing. What is it?
4) There is a red toggle attached to a red light lower left of steering column. What is that? Towing deal?
5) NSS not working: no reverse lights, starts in any gear. No big deal

The only fuse that could be an issue is a 1 amp in the 2 amp spot.

Radio (aftermarket 1990s POS) never had juice.

Vehicle: 70 camper special sport custom. 4x2

Any thoughts, even if as vague as the questions will be appreciated.

1 trash the aftermarket gauge.
2 maybe you can reconnect the red wire to the other gauge. to see if it works.
3 adjust the ipvr and make sure all the wires are hooked up to the gaues and original senders
4 probably electric trailer brakes.
5 flip the switch and wee will find out.
6 either the wires are unhooked the switch is bad or the tang on the column is missing.

radio run power to it and find out if it is good.

If he is a "clueless nube" as he described himself, he is not going to know what half of that means (speaking from experience).. lol

I just recently learned about the IPVR adjustment on the back of the gauge panel. I also had no idea what the "tang" on the column for the neutral safety and reverse lights was until it was explained. Luckily, there are several threads here (some by me) with people asking the same questions regarding those 2 issues.

Here is a thread dealing with the IPVR (with links to other threads dealing with it as well):

http://www.fordification.com/forum/view ... a&start=60

And here is a thread talking about the tang on the neutral safety switch:

http://www.fordification.com/forum/view ... =8&t=51225

Now, regarding the missing tang, I doubt that is the case because then the truck would not start at all, so it sounds to me like someone just bypassed the neutral safety swich by connecting the two neutral safetly wires... The tang may be missing and someone just wired around it instead of replacing it. This would also explain the lack of reverse lights.

Anyway, hope some of that extra info helps.. Fordman gave you a good list!

Thanks, I will update once I get organized.

I flipped the switch and the truck turned into a dodge. I'm going to fire that switch.
