1967 Harness Questions...

Post by Doug F »

Hey guys,

When I first got my truck the tail light harness was totally wrecked and I had to make do with what I had and got it working.

Over the last couple months I have collected almost a full harness from the firewall to the taillights. Here's where it gets weird!

I pulled a harness from a 67 F250 that was, of course, hacked a little bit, but 90% complete due to a 'Y' in it that leaves a mystery.

The one branch of the 'Y' is the complete tail light harness, Brn, Blk, Yel, Lt. Grn and I have the whole thing right up to the tail lights. :woohoo:

The other part of the 'Y' is the mystery, :hmm: it has 2 heavy gauge wires, Red (starts with a weather tight male plug at the firewall) and White that has an eyelet that screwed to the firewall, as well as Brn, Dk. Grn and Yel all wrapped together and was all spliced with some mangled mess of wire that went toward the back, so I cut it off at about the rear axle so I could pull it through the holes in the frame.

Is this a "factory" trailer harness? What does the Red wire plug into at the firewall? What does it go to at the rear? Is the White wire ground like I am assuming? The Brown is "lights", Green is "right brake and turn" and Yellow is "left brake and turn" correct? The 67 wiring schematic doesn't show a White wire going to the rear, or a Red either.

Anyone know what is going on with this?

Thanks!

look at this diagram. is this what you might have? http://www.fordification.com/tech/wirin ... camper.jpg thats the only factory thing i can think of that would have those color of wires going back that way. unless someone has added it. or the only one other thing i cna think of is the aux tank wire it is orange. and would go back to the aux tank on the truck it was taken off of. but it wouldnt have a white wire going with it.

Don't know about the 67 harness, but on my 71 the brake warning light is tied in with the rear harness. The weather tight plug goes onto the proportioning valve.

Hmmm that's pretty much what it looks like, but I don't see all those black wires, Black and Black with Red Stripe that goes to this section... Would the Camper Special be denoted on the door tag?

the black wires go from the camper plug to the camper. that probably wont be on your harness. if probably went with the last camper that was on the truck. you can hook up the red and white if you ever want to put a camper on it.

Do you know what the green, yellow and brown wire were for? Could I use those to put in a trailer plug? (for that once a year trailer run)

green and yellow are turn signal wires. brown is tail lights. for some reason i can not remember which one green is and which one yellow is. but they are both turn signal wires colors.

The easy way for me to remember where the green and yellow go is: The yellow stripe on the road is on the left. yellow wire = left turn signal. Green is for the grass in the borrow ditch. The borrow ditch is to the right, Green wire = right turn signal.
