Starter Replacement

I need to replace the starter on a 292 MD engine but am not sure of the year
How can I mak sure I order the correct starter?

i dont know much about Y blocks. but it might have a date code on the block like the FE engines do. The FE engine has the date code under the oil filter adapter on the block. it is a flat spot with what looks like two screws in it.

Find a good parts store like Carquest or NAPA, then take your old starter with you and match it up.
