No, go with a more traditional color pattern.

Seat Color/Pattern - Opinions Wanted

Post by BiggDogg »

I stumbled across this site with aftermarket seats (http://www.discountvantruck.com/truck40 ... kseats.htm), and although I may not necessarily get a seat from them, this flames seat pattern caught my attention. Anyway, do you guys think this would look good with my truck, or you think a more traditional fabric/color pattern would look better?

I don´t like the flames either, they look to modern for your truck, keep it classic! Looks very clean your truck!

Good day BiggDogg!

I can see the affinity between the flame seats and your truck, so I can understand why you'd consider it!

In my opinion, while the flame seats are nice, that particular flame pattern could convey a "bad boy" style that seems a little worn out (as applied to car decorations at least). That said, I'm all for custom patterns and designs! Maybe something red and white could be arranged, to match your truck's color and trim?

How about red fabric with white beads around the edges? That style would be a custom match to your truck while still having a classic look.

If I had my bright yellow bench seat to do all over again, I'd ask the upholstery shop to use white beading around the seams instead of yellow. I think it's cool looking when the edges stand out!

BiggDogg, I look forward to seeing whatever you wind up choosing--I really like the white trim on your truck!!!

Thanks for the votes, and replies guys

Robroy, thank you for your detailed and thoughtful post, much appreciated! I too really like the piping in a different color on the seat. The "bad-boy" style certainly isn't me, so perhaps it was the contrasting colors that caught my attention when I initially saw this seat.

I did get this later model seat at the salvage yard about three years ago, and have since been debating what to do with it:

I took it to a local upholstery shop that has been in business for over 20 years here, and has been highly recommended by other auto businesses as well. He told me he could just use the "skeleton" of the salvage yard seat, and basically create any design/pattern we could come up with.

I prefer a bench seat myself, but the flames are a bit, out there for me regardless. Sorry to get off topic, but what did you do with your grille there? Looks nice.

Thanks! The stock 70 grille shell was pretty beat up, and replacing it wasn't in the budget, so we painted it white just to see how it would look, liked it, and stuck with it. The inserts are the billet grille inserts from Blue Oval Truck Parts. I liked those better than the stock plastic ones, and felt the plastic replacements weren't worth the cost anyway, so there you have it.

I think the flames would not complement your truck well. I think the color should be along the lines of what came from the factory.
