Ashtray Adjustment? - keeps falling out
I would like to use my ashtray to store change, but everytime i open it, it just falls out. Is there some type of adjustment? I have tried bending the removal tab up, but that doesnt seem to do anything. Thanks...(i guess i could sit out there and figure it out. but its much easier to get advice in here first.)

it is probably missing the cage and ball bearings from the bottom of it. that is very common in our trucks.

if the ball bearings are in place then it's just an issue with that tab. All you can do is bend it up more.

And if you need ball bearings get 11/32nds, I got a couple from a local bearing shop for a big fat $0 but I did put a couple of bucks in thier coffee fund.

I see the slot on the side of the ashtray, but what holds the bearings in it. I am going to the local wrecker tomorrow to find some.

the ball bearings ride in that slot. the bearings are held by a cage that wraps around the bottom of the ashtray.

Pulled mine out last night (the ashtray opens is not latched so it doesn't pivot open, just pulls out). Noticed the cage with only one ball bearing in there. Anyone have detailed instructions on how to put it back together once I get new ball bearings?

I just put the bearings in the slot and then carefully lift the carrier until you can push the bearing into the socket, I do one at a time and use my thumb to hold the the other one in place while I slide the new bearing in. Just try not to take the "spring" out of the carrier.

Pretty simple really. Assemble the tray and cage with two ball bearings on one side. Lay that side down on a suitable surface to hold them in and then use a screwdriver to GENTLY pry the cage away just enough to install the other two. The main thing is to not over stretch the cage. After that some lube is a good idea. It is a little easier to work the bearings in the channels instead of from the flat side

once the carrier is off. i take and put two balls in one side of the carrier. then i put it on the ash tray. it is still loose. then you can take and push the balls in from the top being careful not to bend the carrier.
or before you put the carrier onto the ash tray set the other two balls into the ashtray slot and while you sldie the carrier on slide it over the other two balls on the other side. this is all done with the ash tray laying on its side.
