Radiator overflow jug?
In the dozen or so trucks that I've stripped down over the past year, none of them had a radiator overflow jug. I know that almost anything can be used, but I was wondering if anyone had an ORIGINAL overflow jug in their truck? I know that they can be found on the larger trucks, like tow trucks, maybe some grain trucks....
There was an auction on E-bay a little while back where someone was selling a jug which they specifically stated was for a '67-'72 Ford pickup. Does this look like a stock piece or something fitted from a different vehicle?

I have never seen one except own er installed. It might have been an accessory part but more likely it was something that was added to the truck by a po

I have never seen one either. That thing looks ugly. Not something I would use. Somebody just trying to get a buck.

They were available for our-year trucks but I've never seen one.
I know mike (mk on the other site) has seen three of them so far. They were all on '71 - '72 pickups and had a part number that started with a D1TB so maybe just the 71/72? He sold one and kept the other (the third one was shattered), will have to ask him what it looks like.

I know you are looking for original but what would a nice engine-matching overflow jug hurt?

I wasn't necessarily looking for an original to use, just to get a visual of what it would look like. I'll probably do some looking around and see what I can find OEM from another car/truck, something that would look like it belongs and not an add-on.

Like maybe a 2 litre Pepsi jug. Or for the larger size an antifreeze jug.

Yes, that is for recycling gas vapors. I haven't seen one of them on our trucks. But, then again that is one of those things that gets thrown away when someone mods the engine bay or does a engine transplant.

I suppose before every drive you have to file an environmental impact statement.muchtomydelight wrote:My truck is the EPAs sworn enemy.

Starting in 1970 the F-100s had an evap cannister mounted inside the right frame rail in the engine compartment.heep70 wrote:Yes, that is for recycling gas vapors. re: Radiator overflow jug?
I would think that the evap canister would be mounted too low to use as an overflow jug. I suppose you could move it up higher....but with it being metal, it's certainly not going to last very long. I would think it would rust out pretty quickly.
