Dim gauges - need help
Is there a way to brighten the gauge lights ? I have replaced all of the bulbs and cleaned the plastic gauge face plate with little improvement. Its not the dimmer switch because the speedometer seems bright enough but the others are still dim.
I did notice that the clear plastic cover was hazy when i had it apart.
Today i did find a perfectly clear faceplate and will be installing this next weekend. Any more ideas on brightening the gauges?

You can change out the bulbs. The number on the bulb relates to its brightness, just make sure you stay in your wattage range so you don't over load the circuit...alvald83 wrote:Is there a way to brighten the gauge lights ? I did try the rheostat and the bulbs i bought were the same # as the bulbs i replaced. Maybe i'll look for brighter bulbs.

Two bulbs I know of will fit the sockets, a 158 and a 194.
I think the 158's are 1 candlepower and the 194's are 2 candlepower.

The problem with that chart is it's not correct, just like the MPC is not correct.fordamericana wrote:Best way to go...70_F100 wrote:Two bulbs I know of will fit the sockets, a 158 and a 194.

Neither the chart nor the MPC lists the correct bulbs for the instrument cluster bulbs nor the side marker bulbs.
Both are the wedge type (158/194), and neither of them are shown under the application data.

Fordamericana, he has two trucks.
One is a 69, and one is a 72.
The 69 possibly (no, probably) takes the bayonet style bulbs. The 72 takes the wedge style bulbs (158/194).
Therefore, a little clarification to the original post is in order.
