ignition

Post by 1971ford »

How do you mount the ignition switch?
I'm trying to get it mounted in my highboy. I looked at the ignition in the '71 that is super solid in there but i cant get my head in the dash to see what all is there lol

I have the outer bezel that screws onto the switch, and i have a little mount thing that i can't figure out where it goes. It goes around the switch then screws to something?? my '71 apparently doesn't have it but the ignition in the 71 is perfectly fine.

When i sild the ignition switch through the dash and simply screw the bezel on, there is a good half inch of slop, definately no where near being how it should be.

the inside mount thing screws in from the bottom of the dash with a single phillips screw. then the switch goes through it and you put the out bezel on it.

But I couldn't find any possible way for the mount to screw into the dash with the ignition switch being in the right place. It either put the swithc super far from the dash or it would be so close it wouldn't work at all... Did every bump 67-72 have those mounts? It seems like there is no way for it to work in my truck. Maybe im just stupid. ill look at it again but i spent a half hour just fiddling with that bracket...

Maybe the mount is tweaked a little. AFAIK ever bump had them my '71 has the mount and so does the '67 parts truck, if you like I can get you a picture tomorrow if that would help.

Bingo. Thanks that solves it. I just went out and put the mount in the way it is in your picture and figured it out.
I was way over thinking it, and had the mount turned around so that the flanged part fit over the ribs on the ignition switch.

Another problem solved by the great Fordman lol
