key won't turn!

Post by 1971ford »

So I've been starting hte highboy with a screwdriver (no key cylinder installed yet) and today I installed hte key cylinder into the ignition. key cylinder/keys are brand new from NPD.
I install it, turn the key, everything works. Pull the key out, put it in, can't turn it AT ALL. GREAT. Now I can't even pull the lock cylinder out so now i can't even start my truck with a screwdriver.

WTF can I do? I don't see any way to pull the lock cylinder out without being able to turn the key to acc position.

I'll see what NPD has to say, they have disappointed me this time... can't even drive my daily driver now

After an hour of calling every NPD store I finally found out which one i bought it from.
They said they might be able to give me a new lock cylinder but not an ignition switch.
So now I need an ignition switch too!!!

if yo uhave time to mess with it. wiggle the key up and down in and out while you try to turn the key. then try flipping the key over to see if that will work.

Yep tried both keys, both sides, puwiggle wiggle wiggle,
I finally trashed the whole deal.
Then I went to the junkyard and cut off a 1971 ignition plug, then grabbed the ignition from the '71 race truck, swapped that and the key cylinder into the '69 and swapped ignition plugs for the blade type. Now the '69 has a fully functional ignition with key. Works great.
But now the race truck has no ignition at all so I need to get another blade style ignition housing to put in the '71, then I'll put the '71s lock cylinder back into it, and I'll put the new NPD lock cylinder into the '69 that they are sending me again.

Sent you a PM about it Fordman.

lol seriously. I have taken so much off the '71 already to make the '69 my daily driver...
I've started a list so that when i put the '71 back together near summer time I know what i don't have lol
