Wing noise

Post by Mancar1 »

When :drive: my 68 the wind noise caused by the wings is annoying :shh: . Has anyone put new handles on, and does that tighten them up enough. About ready to send one to my brother-in-law machinist so he can make me a couple caps or new assemblies with extra lenth to the tips.

if the plasitc tip is worn off a new handles may help the noise. but it could also be the worn rubber around the glass and frame. or here is another solution.

Thanks fordman. Rubber is new, and I am currently doing something similar to what your pics. show. I'm using a bud cap plus a washer. :) For now wind noise dropped a lot.

Un-cork your exhaust. You'll forget all about the whistle.

I put a large vaccuum cap with a short piece of hose in the bottom over the latch. It's not quite so noticable and seems to work pretty good.

Thanks for the hint. My exhaust makes some sweat music, (Glasspacks). When I get more ump on the 390, I will uncork it some more.

Okay, so if I don't want to have bottlecaps or folded up business cards under my wing window latches, does replacing them fix the problem? The tips on mine appear fine, but the latches themselves seem to have some movement. When you replace the latches, does that fix the air noise?

Yes it should help if you buy new ones. after a lotta years they get very loose and the tips wear. That is two of the many things I plan on getting.

A friend has replaced the weatherstrip around his wings, he got it from LMC, one will not hardly close and has gaaps in it. I think if it is the weatherstrip, it would just be the staight one that the wing seals to. I don't know if you can get just that piece without ordering a whole set of stuff.
