Headliner pattern,

Post by Fordman5 »

Hello all,

If someone can help this new to restoration guy. I have a 67 F100, does the headlinger have the chrome ring around it and where can I find a pattern to make my own. I do not have the chrome around it either.

My 67 custom cab has the chrome trim around the headliner but it is rusting. The 67 f350 I got parts from had the painted trim but its a little bent up. I am using the painted trim from a 70 for my truck when it is done. I have it primed waiting for the paint to finish it off.

The headliner trim can either be painted or chrome, depending on what trim package your truck came with. AFAIK they aren't being reproduced, so you'll have to get a set from a junkyard truck or E-bay, unless someone here has a spare set. Post a request in the Parts Wanted section and see what turns up.

As for the headliner, these are being reproduced, but being as large as they are, they're subject to oversize shipping rates.

If you're willing to make your own and just need a template, another member here might have an old one that isn't any good. They could cut it up into several smaller pieces that could be shipped inexpensively, and then you can reassemble (with duct tape?) to use as a pattern.

how hard would it be to make measurements and radiuses of the corner and post them so they could be viewed or downloaded? i have an old headliner. i could do some work to get a pattern made up for the site to download or view or something. how would i do it?? and make it so everyone could have access to this pattern?

What might be easier is just to trace it out on a large piece of paper, and then fold it up and mail it.

what i did was i went to a pull your own part and from a toyota suv i removed the whole headliner and traced out the pattern from my old headliner and cut it to size it is great it has the fiberglass backing on it so it will never sag.so if you can get the dimensions this is the way i would go.just my own opinion :fr: oh and it only cost 9.00

That woud be great if someone can make a paper cut out, or a cloth one, that was shipping would be low cost and it could fit in a manilla envelope. If someone could do that for me Ill pay to have it shipped out. Also, get the dementions and put on a word file. All you have to do in put in a shape and get it close but also include the measurements. thanks

ok here is an idea how to do this. let me know if this sounds like the way to do it. first you woul dmeasure both ways and find center. off of the center that would give you a reference point for the radiusus of the corners. even though they are exact circles. the only thing i am not sure of how to explain or give the out the correct way to make the corners of it.

yes it is flat enough but it has to be from an suv not a truck and you can still bend the corners for the back.i just used some black vinyl material and some 3m adhesive work great for me. :fr:

The chrome ones I have has some rust on them, they might clean up but I dought it. I have some from a 67 that have a bend in them that might be able to be straightened. Pm me if you want a picture of either one.

you can take rubbing compound and plain 00 fine steel wool and clean most of the rust off of the chrome headliner trim usually. not always. but i have cleaned alot up myself.
