I ripped my beat up firewall padding out, and I plan not to put the same thing back in. I want to just paint the surface with a undercoating that reduces sound. Here are my thoughts, 1. A rubberized undercoating spray 2. Bed liner coating. I should think about heat transfer as well. Any suggestions out there??
I would think twice before putting anything that would smell that badly inside the cab. It would probably take forever before the smell would dissipate. Have you considered using the thin foil soundproofing material? You can buy this in a self-stick so you just peel and stick.
the water heater insulation i thought he was talking about could be double sided aluminum foil looking stuff with bubble wrap in the middle of it. they sell that as a heat proofing or sound proofing stuff for cars.

I tried the bedliner on a center hump for a 4 speed 78 i had one time. Smell goes away fast enough but no real insulation effect. just looked nice was all.
The thing is, I want to be able to paint it, or have it black to begin with. I will look at the options, but I might just paint it and leave it, just worried about the sound and heat transfer.
I used lizard skin. It is easy to spray on and leaves a nice textured look. Easy to clean up too. They have one type that is a sound deadener and another for insulation. Kind of expensive, I think if I could go back I would just use the sound mats, like hush mat.
I wish I could tell you how good it works but the truck isn't put back together yet
I used a sprayable bed liner. This will dry and harden. It is a two part system. The undercoating does not have a hardener and will always be soft. I live in a rainy area and water leaks can really destroy a cab in a hurry. That is why I chose it but you could always put sound deadening mat over it as well.

I found some 1/4 inch black, really dence foam, with a rubberized back on it that is real flexable. It was 2 sheets for 48 with shipping. I think they are 2 ft by 4 ft. A nice buy, ill let you know how it turns out..
I used the stuff from Home Depot. It claims to reflect 97% of heat and it's much quieter in the cab now (my exhaust is headers and 40 series Flowmasters).

Looks totally awesome. I recently put down a few layer of sound dampner (Zillamat), foil back insulation, and sound barrier. I also wrapped the cab, doors, and ceiling. I am hoping to get my carpet towards the end of the month and install it. Thanks for the pics!
