Improper gear selector read

Post by mark F-100 »

Hi folks! Just wondering what you did to make the gear selector read proper on steering column. Changed motor and trans. What I got now, is park is park low gear reads N on selector.I've got a project thread up in that section of my truck build.

Sorry I'll try to be a little more specific, trany came out of 71 Merc. Trany is a C-6, it seems to have a shorter stroke between gears than original trany. Doesn't matter how i adjust the rod, still reads improper on selector.

The shift lever on the side of the transmission is too short for your truck's shifter. In order to get it to read right, you really need to get the longer shift lever from a truck transmission. You'll have to drop the transmission pan and remove a nut to get that thing out of there. It's a bit of a pain, but not impossible.

I did the same thing when I built the C6 for my truck  Had to drop the pan and pull the valve-body to change it out :x

Or if you are not a perfectionist just cut off the lever from the old transmission and weld it to the new transmission at the right length.

I thought about doing that but I was afraid I'd melt the shift selector seal, and/or the kick-down lever O-ring.
