Need help IDing this A/C unit...

Post by Calfdemon »

I responded to an add where someone is selling an under dash A/C unit. He dismantled numerous vehicles over the years and has had parts in storage which he is now getting rid of. He does not remember what this came off of but thinks it "came off of a late 60's or early 70's vehicle. Possibly a Ford". I inquired and asked for a picture and this is what he sent. He claims that all of the parts he kept were working when he put them in storage.,

It looks to me like this will work for my 72 F-250, but I really dont know a bunch about the A/C units. I just see the top mounting line and it looks to follow a bumpside dash. Does anyone know for sure by looking at this photo if it is for our bumps? Seems to me that it is and for $40, Im willing to take the chance on it working. If I get this, then I would just need to find the under-the-hood components, but first things first... Any help is appreciated!

Thanks in advance...

Awesome info fordman!! Can you tell me what the "kilroy was here" looking cutout on the left side is for? That has kinda got me stumped as I cant figure out if a piece is missing or what that would be for. Im talking about the cutout above the low hanging bump between the left two vents...

Also, if you do have the installation paperwork, would it be possible to get a scanned copy of it emailed to me? With the confirmation that this is for a bump, I am about 99% sure I am going to buy it.

Didnt realize this was a full length system. Most of the under dash AC units I have seen are shorter and end before the steering column.

I just spoke to the guy and he put the system in storage 30 years ago and it has been sitting there ever since. Worked when he put it away and other than some dust, looks just as it did when he took it off. Anyway, to my surprise, he also has the compressor with 390 mounts, and all the parts for the complete system (other than the pulley which I can get elsewhere). He wants $90 for everything, so hopefully I will have working AC in my bump this summer! We shall see how it goes, but at some of the pick-a-parts I have been to, they have wanted almost $90 for units that are very questionable and beat up. So figure I cant go wrong with this system. Keeping my fingers crossed that it will work once it is evacuated and charged.

Thanks again for the info fordman! And the installation paperwork and directions would be awesome! Gotta love this site and the folks that reside here! :)
