Molded Plastic Dashboard Cover
Pretty much every bump I see has a cracked dash. That goofy speaker hole in the middle caused havoc on those dashboards. I see in LMC Magazine they have a Molded Plastic Dashboard Cover. Anyone use one and have a picture? How do you like it?

Re: Molded Plastic Dashboard Cover
the only one i ever seen in person was loose up by the windshield. they have to be glued onto the original dash pad. it looked good other than that.

Re: Molded Plastic Dashboard Cover
I have one and it looks good. You really do NEED to glue it to the existing pad or it will constantly fall backwards onto your lap when you accelerate. I tried both just sitting it up there and velcro but the heat melted the glue for the velcro. Actual glue is the only way, but it looks way better than a cracked pad and people really cant tell upon first glance. I would post pictures but it just looks like a dash pad, so nothing really to see. Only thing you will get is some slight warping up near the glass because it is too hard to glue it evenly and even then, you cant clamp the whole thing. I used weights and clamps to hold it on after I glued it, but it is too big an area to get to settle evenly. The warping is slight though and really not a big deal unless you are trying to go completely show quality.
Anyway, if its a daily driver, its a good buy...

Re: Molded Plastic Dashboard Cover
I think the one billbates is refering to is a direct replacement for the main or OEM dash pad. It is not a pad cover. I have been interested in that one also but at around $400.00 I lose some of my interest. Would like to have a hard dash of plastic or fiberglass or even metal--hate that padded stuff. Have had a dash cover that fits over the orginal pad for a number of years but it doesn't fit properly--didn't cover all the way. Would be interested to hear about the dash replacement myself.

Re: Molded Plastic Dashboard Cover
He specifically said "Molded Plastic Dash Cover" which is what I have and why I chimed in.
If he is talking about the replacement pad, then I dont know about it. But the molded plastic dash cover I have works great.

Re: Molded Plastic Dashboard Cover
califdeamon--is your dash hard--with no vinyl pad--where did you buy it? I am very interested---My apologies for in-attention to the post-I also had the LMC product wrong--I have about 7 Ford parts catalogs for restoration & I was confused as to the proper dealer--I am searching to find the factory replacement dash I was refering to but so far I don't see it--it's there somewhere & as soon as I locate it I will post dealer & product number-- sorry!!!!!

Re: Molded Plastic Dashboard Cover
OK guys here it is--I found the dash I was looking for but it says pad--however it also says "made from origonal ford tooling".The Dealer is C&G Early Ford Parts located in Escondido, Calif. The Ford # is C7TZ-8104290-Bl-Black---Wt-White--- My catalog is an old one from 2005-6 but I bet they still have the dash in stock. It is listed as a "Dash Pad" not a Dash Pad Cover & the price at that time was $350.00 + extra shipping charges for an oversize item. Well I guess I had some of it right but I just can't understand ME making a mistake? I have NEVER did that before----Hmmmmmmmm Well, ---maybe a few times. Oh--this pad fits 67-72 ford trucks F-100-350.

Re: Molded Plastic Dashboard Cover
My dash cover is hard molded plastic that just fits right over the existing stock dash pad. You just glue it on over the exisiting pad. It looks pretty good and most people cannot tell it is a cover at first glance.
There are a few places that sell them and they are about 1/3 the cost of a new dash pad. I bought this one:
http://www.hwaccessories.com/Coverlay/C ... overs.html
But they also have it in the LMC catalog which is what I think the original poster was talking about:
http://www.lmctruck.com/icatalog/fb/full.aspx?Page=93
Anyway, they have them in different colors, but they are also paintable, so you can paint them to match your interior.
I didnt post pictures before because it just looks like a dash pad, but since there are so many questions, here it is... It fits pretty well, but there are a few spots where it is not glued down just due to the large surface area. I could not get it all to make contact till it set. So it warped up slightly in the middle by the defroster vents. But it is not that noticeable and doesnt bother me any. Anyway, here are a few pics:

Looks nice, I was also curious about this since I just ordered one myself.

Re: Molded Plastic Dashboard Cover
I have the hard cover on mine. Been there about 10 years now. The glue has come undone but it stays where it's at and doesn't mover or rattle. If you look close at the area below the curve you can tell it is a cover but considering the price at the time of a new dash pad I love it.
I had to do a good bit of trimming to get mine to sit flat. It wouldn't take anything at all to pull mine loose and re-glue it but I don't see the need since it stays put
Mine was $100

Re: Molded Plastic Dashboard Cover
Thanks... Its the wooden wheel by Grant. I believe I ordered it from the LMC catalog as well. Its surprising a lot more comfortable that I thought it would be. Im not a large guy (5'09", 200 lbs) but that stock wheel just did not leave too much room for the driver. I have no idea how a larger guy can drive our trucks. The smaller wheel is much nicer.billbates40 wrote:That looks great. I love your steering wheel BTW!!
