New Highliner.

Post by SteelCowboy »

Anyone ever purchased headliner or highliners from LMC?
I'm seriously interested in getting the one with the speakers and storage and was wondering if anyone has gone through LMC for parts...

There are a few on here that I have seen threads and photos of. If you search the forums, I am sure you will find them. I would hunt it down for you but am at work and only have time for a quick reply. :)

Depends on who I am around. :) I have been called "Boss" before, but usually I am just "the man". Of course, they are not used in the terms you are probably thinking. 8)

The reviews I've read here haven't been good for the Highliner.

Cheap speakers, problems with fitment and trim, etc.

Just my :2cents:

Why is it that there's seldom time to fix it right the first time, but there's always time to fix it right the second time???

I likes mine. I am half considering selling it because I am building a very stoc truck. I am putting an AM radio back in it. Based on the thread about making an old radio able to play mp3 players, I may do that with some modifications so I can deity off the antenna input.

But again, I liked mine, and if I had good trim I would consider installing it instead of the highliner.

Good day Bjde0b!

This was actually something that I've been meaning to find out: does this head-liner fasten in place using the OEM Ford, metal trim pieces? It sounds like it does, but I'd like to be certain about this, since I'll need to find those trim pieces for my truck.

Thanks!!!

I didn't use the trim. That doesn't mean that is correct. Below is a picture of the corner. I had to drill new holes in the edge where the trim normally attaches. I assume that is because the highliner weighs more so needs more support.

Just because I didn't use the trim 13 years ago, doesn't mean that is the right way to do it.

If/when I install it again, I was planning on buying new higher quality speakers to fix the speaker quality issue.

My other problem is that the antenna will be going to the stock AM radio, so I don't know what to do about an antenna for the reciever in the highliner.

Finally, there is not any additional storage in the highliner, it only has 4 speakers and a compartment for the reciever.

First, thanks for all the links, replies, and information.
This is site has become fundamental in working on Sheila.

I'm planning on wiring the speakers to my deck inside the glove box and using the space provided in the highliner for cds/remotes/etc.
I've heard that the speakers are absolute garbage. I'm very particular about sound quality, so replacing the speakers is almost a definite, as I'm so picky.
The only thing I'm worried about is the unit 'sagging' and 'warping' after install. Those are terms that I've read in reviews.

I've also read the the original trim won't fit over the highliner which frustrates me to some accord, because I just picked one up from my local pull-a-part.

I'm pretty sure I'm going to take the leap and order one, my girlfriend wants to pay for half, because she 'loves' Sheila, too. Hahaha. Hopefully, I'll have positive things to say about it.

Secondly, if you're interested in selling your highliner within the next few weeks. bdje0b. I'll definitely be interested.

Mine didn't sag.

Be careful drilling the new holes so you don't go through the top of the cab, it can happen. You will have to cut some ofthe screws short so they don't hit the top of the cab.

And what about the condensation off the underside of the roof as the ABS plastic will not allow much circulation?
