That bellhousing is for a 351M/400 not a 460. It will bolt on but it is not as deep so you have to add a spacer or the input will push the crank forward and chew up the thrust bearing in the engine ( http://www.460ford.com/forum/archive/in ... 39340.html http://www.460ford.com/forum/archive/in ... 24665.html). There is about a 7/16 inch difference between that and a real 429/460 bell (the real ones have the ribs on the outside!). The issue only applies to the D7TA, D8TA, D9TA and E1TA bellhousings as those were all pretty much the same thing slightly revised. You can use them if you use a smaller clucth and a spacer between the trans and bellhousing. Hawkrod

That may be true but Ford did not build it that way. A 77 and newer LTD (It is a D7T bellhousing so we know it was not made before 77) never came with a 429 so it was obviously an earlier car that they swapped the bellhousing into or a later car that had the whole kit and kaboodle swapped into but that is not important, what is important is that we know for certain that it is a 351M/400 bellhousing and not a 429/460 bellhousing and that is all that is really important. We certainly would not want one of our friends here to buy it not knowing of teh potential issues or worse buy it and tear up an otherwise good engine. I am sure everybody here wants to make sure that we always try and help to prevent potentially bad situations. Hawkrod
