Craigslist score!! And vinyl paint question...

Post by Calfdemon »

So wanted to share my latest score for the crew cab today. I went on Craigslist to look for some sort of bucket seat option for the front of the crew and was probably going to settle for some Bronco buckets and pay to have them reupholstered. Then hunt down some sort of center console that looked good between them. I end up finding some custom seats taken out of a 77 F250. They are EVERYTHING I have been looking for and I have seen these custom seat arrangements online for $850+ each. I got these for $200 delivered. The only thing that doesnt work for me is the color, and that is where my vinyl paint question comes in. I have read about it and have seen that Duplicolor Vinyl spray paint has some favorable reviews, but just wondering if anyone here has actually used it and what luck they had with it...

Anyway, these seats completely adjust and recline, and there is a hidden drink cooler built into the center console which can also work as a 3rd seat.

The mounting system is an exact match to the outer holes for the stock seats and it bolts right in...

And I went ahead and sat it in the crew for a test fit. The seats are amazing and extremely comfortable. The backs even have the pockets for storing stuff. Now I just have to change the color...

Its definately going to make driving around in the crew a lot more comfortable!! I was completely stoked to find these and to have them be everything I have been looking for, other than the color. So again, anyone have any advise on how to change the color of the vinyl? I am leaning towards the duplicolor product, but they do not make the color I want (dark green). I could go black and then work that into my paint scheme. I think getting them recovered would be a bit too much money.

Got to an upholstry shop and ask them about dying your stuff... they can probably match the color you want and it shouldn't be too expensive.

Just as an FYI: That seat arrangement appears to be one of the offerings from Qualitex.com. I recently picked up a budget set of seats of theirs from a junkyard truck to install in my SuperCab, and the base appears to be identical to yours. According to their website, the mounting hardware/covers/etc. is not sold separately, it has to be purchased with the seats. At the time I was thinking this might be an inexpensive way for us to get buckets seats into our trucks. However, you might be able to contact them and see if you could talk them into selling you a different color set of covers.

Here's a link at the .net site where I detailed installing the buckets in my '75:

Thanks Keith, that is where I had seen the seats online before and it looks like I ended up with the "VIP" style they sell. I will look at getting them recovered and see what that will run, but I think I will try coloring them myself and see how that comes out first. Figure if I screw it up, then recovering is the next option anyway. Why not give it a shot?

Anyway, I will update it in my build thread when I finally go for changing the color.

Hi, I just re-colored my vinyl arm rest.
I was very pleased with the Rustoleum Vinyl spray paint, the colors are probably just as limited as Dupli-color is though.

It went on even and dried very nice....

Those seats look great, they appear to fit well too. Im going to have to take a peek at the Qualitex website and see what options they have.
