Cleaning Rear View Mirror Help

Post by davbell22602 »

1967 F100

I have a rusty rear view mirror. Though about sanding it with emmory cloth then repaint it with that Testors model paint with the closest match to the color.

OR

Should I leave it alone and keep my eyes open for a better one in the classifieds?

Whats your thoughts or ideas?

Here's pic of mirror

Try using WD-40 on the rust, soak it for awhile and use a scotch pad to clean it off, wash it off with dish soap, sand, Primer and paint it.

Just be careful not to get the WD40 on the glass. It will affect the reflective coating on the back of the glass.

What about using dollar general oven cleaner and a copper steel wool pad?

Scotch-Brite works well, dry sand, wipe with mineral-spirits/paint thinner, mask well, Rustoleum Self-Etching primer (Home Depot), not sure if it's compatible with laquer paints, ok for enamel. Corinthian White is the original color, I used Ivory white enamel on mine.
Mirror head was also used on '65 and early '66 Mustangs, should you need a replacement, around $25.
