67 with odd options?

Post by MadMatt »

Hi everybody! Well a few years ago i owned a neat little 1967 standard cab f100 style side. Only after selling the truck and later finding some cool truck brouchers i noticed that standard trucks had no arm rest,no horn ring, typicly no heater controls, and no radio. My truck had arm rest, heater controls, and horn ring. Also had straight aluminum grill but with white painted bumper. My Dad said that over the years sombody added or changed/upgraded from the standard nothingness. Somehow i doubt that, as it was all in well worn but ok condition the grill i could see beeing changed from steel one if got rusted out etc.. but not the interior stuff. Suppose sombody tryed to make a custom cab out of a standard when ordering the truck new? I miss that truck it had the original 240 six and 4speed/granny low. i drove it for two years back and forth to work 98miles aday round trip! Had to fill up every 2 days! back in 04! gas wasent real cheap! It had no highway gear in rearend!

I knew the "radio delete" was an option for a 67 but never heard of one coming without arm rests or heater controls. You sure the arm rests had not just been destroyed through the years and removed, as well as the heater controls? That would be easy to do as it only leaves two small screw holes for each arm rest I believe-and our heater control cable(s) are know for seizing up and breaking the controls. :hmm:
Here's a link to the factory Ford literature that shows all the "options" our trucks had back then:

If you look at that brochure, you'll see that the Standard Cab came without arm rests and that the heater had a single control.

Now, THAT'S what you call "Plain Jane"... :D

I do not what year it ended but I do know as late as the '50's if it were a southern vehicle it came with no heater unless special ordered. Could explain no controls.

Thats what i did if you look at brouchers it shows standard cab 67's having no heater controls no radio and no armrest and no horn ring just simple horn button. My truck was a standard cab but had all of these including nice horn ring. The truck was wearing its original paint and it had no outside trim at all exept to f100 callouts on hood. so i know it was standard cab truck. someone must have checked most all the options when orderd new

The brochure shows a single control for the heater.

Look right under the radio delete plate.

It is important to note that just because a vehicle was a standard cab does not mean it wasn't ordered with options. There were many packages available and some packages were combined to be upgrade trim levels (for example, a Custom is basically a standard cab with a few amenities already included). Most of these things like arm rests were also included in options and so if a truck was ordered that way it would have those items even though it was a more base model. The radio and heater are perfect examples of that. The radio was an option. You either ordered one or did not. The heater was similar in that there are different levels and you could order the bottom of the line truck with everything including AC. The options were not limited to a specific trim level. There are lots of examples of that but one of teh better ones I can give is one I know of for Mercury Cougars in the late 60's. You could order a car and some of the options were bumper guards, floor mats, and door edge guards or you could order the appearance protection group and get all of those so you will find cars with combinations of any of the three items or all of them and these could be ordered on a base or XR-7 Cougar. The reality is a truck without armrests, passenger side sunvisor etc... tend to be rare because very few people wanted one that way so dealers did not order stock like that. They were available for fleet sales and you will often find government vehicles without those items (I have a Air Force CrewCab like that!). Hawkrod
