More than likely the spring broke on the latch. A latch is relatively simple to replace. Pull the arm rest, inner door handle, window crank and door panel. Then unclip and remove the handle and lock rods from the latch, remove the three phillips-head screws holding the latch to the door. Reverse procedure to install. If you have the soft door panels it is best to use a door panel tool to avoid tearing the clips out of the fiber board.

I think this spring has broken.
