Kragen Trannies Any Good?

Post by colnago »

I'm watching a C6 tranny on eBay. The guy said he bought it from Kragen about five years ago, and just pulled it from his truck last month. Are rebuilt from the big stores any good, or is it a gamble?

Thanks,

Joseph

Joseph, NO first hand experience with one of these rebuilt transmissions but I'm always leery of the "mass" produced transmissions, engines or whatever. Just my opinion, but I'd stay away from anything that comes out of this type of shop.

Have you considered rebuilding your C6 yourself? If so, contact Transtar Industries at 877-413-1952 and buy their rebuilding kit, you'll be pleasantly surprised with the low cost plus the experience of doing it yourself. You're gonna care a lot more about the quality of the rebuild then any mass production shop ever will.

While you're at it, install a Transgo Shift Kit Part # 67-1&2 plus a trans cooler...you and your Bump will be happy as a couple of clams.

if I were to take the plunge, how long would it take a weekend wrencher to rebuild a transmission? Are those do-it-yourself books from amazon any good?

Food for thought ...
