front drive shaft
this is not a 67-72 question. My son has a 1994 ford exployer AWD and is having trouble with transfer case. he says it has a popping noise while driving on incline. The vehicle was taken to a mechanic and he told my son it was transfer case related. Can the front drive shaft be removed and then drive the car just to see if the problem persist or will doing that damage something else?

Re: front drive shaft
a 67-72 answer would be to grease the driveshafts amongst checking everything else over...

Re: front drive shaft
Hi, in this SUV it is very important that all tires are the same size & inflated to the same pressure. !/4 difference in diameter will cause problems with this unit. Check this first.....Donnie

Re: front drive shaft
I guess that I really didn't answer your question, but gave you advice on tire size requirements ..........
there were 2 different transfer cases used in this truck ...................I THINK................
1354M............lever on the floor
1354-E...........button on the dash
You can remove the front shaft for testing purposes, but you must select 4 wheel high for the truck to move
I'm pulling this from memory, so you may want to proceed with caution, or wait for another opinion.....there are others on here that may have better recall than I.............But that's how I remember it..........Donnie
