I was wondering if anybody has any suggestions here.
I have a 72F100 360 with C6 tranny.
Everything is pretty much all stock (old farm truck, plenty of cancer spots, fixing stuff as I go and got the $$). Just had the tranny rebuilt about a month ago. I would venture and say I've put MAYBE 500 miles on it sice, shes not my daily driver. BUT, I'm still leaking tranny fluid. I could tell when I was pulling my little pop up tent trailer up the canyon (problem seems worse when engine is being worked a little harder), its dripping somehow/somewhere down and landing on my exhaust pipe that comes right from my manifold on the left side of my engine block (left side when looking towards the engine with the hood popped). It drips down, hits that hot pipe, and smokes, sometimes smoking out my cab.
Any ideas?
When you look under on her belly, the only spot you can see fluid drips right from the bottom of the bellhousing.
I haven't climbed under there and gotten dirty just yet, but I was hoping maybe somebody had some suggestions on where to start.
Please and thank you!!!!

Re: Leaking tranny
I would guess maybe the input shaft seal on the front of the tranny. Maybe Donnie or Bobby can pipe in here as they both know a lot...more than i do bout trannies! When you look under on her belly, the only spot you can see fluid drips right from the bottom of the bellhousing.

Re: Leaking tranny
Basket is probably right.. Most likely the front seal....There is mainly 1 other place that can leak from the bell huosing & that is in the lower corner where the shaft for the servo lever enters the case..there is no pressure there & they VERY seldom leak from this area. I have seen a leak there , but mostly only after someone changed the servo lever & reused the same cup plug... There are many reasons to suspect the front seal.
If it was installed incorrectly, it could leak around the outside of the seal, the garter spring can pop off if a little jelly is not used to secure it in place, if you are not using a seal installer. A correct tool will negate the jelly thing.
Another cause is the use of an incorrect seal.. Some kit's use a grey National seal in this location...This is not good. If using a National seal be sure the "rubber" is BLACK< not grey...If your builder used a TransTec, Precision International, or Toledo Trans kit, you are probably OK here.
A scored converter hub, a worn or loose pump bushing, a converter with too much hub runout are just a few things that come to mind.
Also make sure that your line up dowel pins are protruding enough from the block to properly align the trans
I guess I would start by asking your builder whose kit he used, did he replace the pump bushing & loctite or stake it in place.
Whose converter did he use & was the seal the correct one & how was it installed.......Donnie
Bobby may have more to add........good luck
